Data sources
Addressfinder's autocomplete and verification services utilise the Addressfinder address database. Addresses are sourced from official sources such as The Australia Post PAF, G-NAF, NZ Post PAF, LINZ AIMS, Stats NZ, ESRI, HERE and our own database built over the last decade.
We update our address database monthly to ensure data freshness.
Australia data sources
Addressfinder's Australian address data comes from three main sources:
- The Australia Post PAF The Postal Address File is owned, controlled and maintained by Australia Post. In addition to containing every deliverable address in Australia, the PAF also contains the DPID of address and also GPS coordinates for the majority. Like the Addressfinder database, the PAF is updated on a monthly basis.
- Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF) maintained by Geoscape Australia. As the name implies, the GNAF contains GPS coordinated for 100% of the addresses in the database. The addresses in the GNAF are the legal/physical addresses. These are sourced from multiple reputable sources such as local and Federal Government entities.
- Australian Bureau of Statistics The ABS is Addressfinder's source of census and geo-political related address metadata. This metadata is used to suppliment addresses from the GNAF.
Every verified address can be returned with a range of metadata, see the available Australia addresses metadata
New Zealand data sources
Addressfinder's New Zealand address data comes from four main sources:
- NZ Post PAF The Postal Address File (PAF) which contains addresses that receive mail delivery. This includes Urban, Rural and PO Box types of addresses. The data is owned, maintained and licensed by NZ Post and updated on a quarterly basis.
- LINZ AIMS The Address Information Management System (AIMS) is maintained by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). LINZ collected and manage address data from multiple external parties such as local councils, FENZ, Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (the New Zealand Geographic Board)
- Stats NZ Stats NZ maintains a number fo datasets which Addressfinder builds into it's database. These datasets include, but are not limited to, census area data, Regional and Territorial boundaries and other geo-political bourdaries.
- Open Street Maps Place name and supporting information is collected from the Open Street Maps database. This data facilitate the searching and collection of a verified 'point of interest' address.
Every verified address can be returned with a range of metadata, see the available New Zealand addresses metadata
